PVT Wilbur S. Crane was born 23 Sep 1924 in Sussex County, New Jersey to James Garfield and Jennie (Hughes) Crane. His father worked as a gardner.
When Wilbur entered service he attended training and was sent overseas and assigned to E Company 116th Infantry. He was with that unit on 6 Jun 1944 making the amphibious assault on Omaha beach when he was killed in action.
We believe that PVT Crane was repatriated but do not know where he was buried.
Maternal grandfather, Mathias Henderson, served in the 11th New Jersey Infantry Regiment in the Civil War. Brother Douglas Crane served in the Army, 1942-1945.
