PVT William Jacob Solomon

PVT William Jacob Solomon was born 1 Jan 1918 in New York, New York. Beyond this we know very little of his life. We do know that he had a sister, Anna Solomon, that he had 1 year of high school education and that he worked in the printing trade for the Supreme Label Company in Manhattan. He married Marguerite Shaloum on 4 Apr 1941.

William was drafted in June 1943. After his basic military training he was sent to England and assigned to D Company 116th Infantry, probably in February or March of 1944. He would have had to train with the unit in the final preparations for the amphibious landings on Omaha Beach in which he took part on 6 Jun 1944. PVT Solomon was struck in the chest by a bullet and killed in action on 11 Jul 1944 near Saint-Lo, France.

PVT Solomon rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery.
