SGT William Draper Anglin

SGT William Draper Anglin was born 29 Aug 1918 in Barbour County, West Virginia to George Blaine and Gladys M. (Burner) Anglin.  The family farmed and his father sometimes worked as a coal miner.  In 1940, William seems to have been working for the soil conservation corps controlling erosion. On 8 Sep1941 William married Gladys Dale Smith in Winchester, Virginia.

William was drafted in December 1942.  On 25 Jul 1942 a daughter was born to the couple.  Sent overseas and assigned to I Company 116th Infantry, PFC Anglin was with that unit on D-Day.  On 20 Jun 1944 he was promoted to SGT.  On 12 Jul 1944 SGT Anglin was killed in action.

Repatriated in 1949, SGT Anglin is buried in Indian Fork Cemetery in Elk City, West Virginia.  Gladys remarried and moved with their daughter to Ohio.
