PVT James R Dunn

PVT  James R. Dunn was born about 1895 in Richmond, Virginia. He was the only son of Thomas Berison and Victoria Maude (Swan) Dunn. His father farmed but died in 1899. His mother remarried to a distant cousin of his father's, James Cary Dunn who was also a farmer.

After entering the army James was sent to France with B Company 116th Infantry aboard the USS Finland departing Newark, New Jersey on 15 Jun 1918. PVT Dunn was wounded and died of his wound(s) on 11 Oct 1918.

He received the Distinguished Service Cross in 1919. The following is the citation:
PVT James Dunn, Company B, 116th Infantry, (ASN 1287216). For extraordinary heroism in action near Bois Brabant-sur-Meuse, France October 8, 1918. PVT Dunn, with four other soldiers, fearlessly attacked eight machine-gun positions and succeeded, after stubborn resistance, in capturing both guns and crews. Home address Mrs. James F. Dunn, Richmond, Virgnia.
We are certain that PVT Dunn was repatriated and re-interred in Virginia but do not know where.
