PVT Ellis Swanzy Abney

PVT Ellis Swanzy Abney was born 10 Apr 1924 in Toccopola, Mississippi to Fulton Swanzy and Beulah Estelle (Pickins) Abney.  His father was a  teacher and public school principal. Ellis was known as "Bo" and had graduated from high school in Toccopola.

Ellis was working as a farm hand when he was drafted in June 1943.  After training as a medic he was sent to England and assigned to Medical Detachment 116th Infantry, Ellis was attached to Headquarters 2nd Battalion 116th Infantry for the amphibious assault on D-Day, 6 Jun 1944 when he was killed in action.

PVT Abney is buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
