SSG Grant Collins Yopp

SSG Grant Collins Yopp was born in 27 May 1923 to James A. Garfield and Minnie O'Dell (Collins) Yopp.  The youngest of their 8 children, there is a conflict in sources for his birth year, his enlistment records give a birth year of 1921 but the birth certificate indicates 1923.  Grant no doubt helped his father farm.

Eventually he enlisted in the Bedford National Guard unit, A Company 116th Infantry.  He mobilized with the unit in February 1941 and shipped to England.  He was with the unit as it landed on the shores of France on 6 Jun 1944 and died that day.

Brother Herbert Banks Yopp was drafted into the army in January 1942.
