PFC Theodore A. Mikos was born Thaddeus Mikos on 6 Feb 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the 4th of the 8 children born to Frank and Julia (Gawolek) Mikos. Both parents were natives of Poland who had immigrated in 1910 and married in 1911. His father worked as a salesman for a shoe factory and his mother worked for a time cleaning floors in a local bank. His father reported a 1939 income of $1196 while paying $8 a month rent on the family home at 1438 Chestnut Street in Chicago. Theodore was working as a clerk in a grocery in 1940 and had reported a 1939 income of $208.
Theodore entered Army service in January 1943. After his initial training he was eventually sent to the European theater and transferred from the replacement depot to K Company 116th Infantry on 5 Jul 1944. PFC Mikos was killed in action just 12 days later, on 17 Jul 1944 in the drive to capture Saint Lô.
PFC Mikos was repatriated and re-interred in the
Saint Adalbert Catholic Cemetery in Niles, Illinois.
