PVT Richard R. Rowley

PVT Richard R. Rowley was born 24 Sep 1924 in New York City, New York. He was the 7th of 8 children born to John Aloysius and Mary (O'Connor) Rowley. One sister died in infancy. His father worked as a shipping clerk lived on West Broadway. Richard completed 3 years of high school.

Richard was drafted in May 1943 and after completing his basic military training was sent to the European theater arriving in England in time to train for and participate in the amphibious assault on Omaha Beach on D-Day, 6 Jun 1944 as a rifleman in G Company 116th Infantry. PVT Rowley fought with G Company until killed in action in the fight to liberate Brest, France on 3 Sep 1944.

PVT Rowley is buried in the Brittany American Cemetery.
