SSG Edwin Byron Mood was born 1 Sep 1918 in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. He was the 9th of 10 children born to Willis and Margaret Mae (Transue) Mood. From Edwin's infancy his father worked as a carpenter in a refrigerator factory in Trenton, New Jersey. He did well enough to purchase the family home at 384 Pennington Avenue in Trenton which was valued at $4000 in 1940. His reported income for 1939 was $1850. In that same year Edwin was still living with the family (as were many of his older siblings) and working as a "presser" in a porcelain factory and made $272 but had only worked there for a couple of weeks in 1939. Edwin was able to complete high school and in 1942 had another job.

Edwin was drafted in November 1942. After his initial training PVT Mood was sent to the European theater. On 22 Jun 1944 he was transferred from the replacement depot to G Company 116th Infantry. Edwin was promoted to PFC on 24 Jul 1944. PFC Mood was promoted again on 19 Aug 1944 to SSG to serve as a squad leader. SSG Mood was wounded on 3 Sep 1944 and evacuated but died of his wound(s) on that same day.

SSG Mood was repatriated in 1943 and re-interred in Greenwood Cemetery in Trenton, New Jersey.

Grandfather, Byron Mood, served as a PVT in I Troop 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry and I Company 3rd U.S. Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. Grandfather Ananias Transue served as a PVT in G Company 142 Pennsylvania Infantry in the Civil War. Great-great grandfather Elias Transue and his father (Edwin's great-great-great grandfather), Johann Abraham Transue served together in CPT Wagner's Company, 4th Battalion, Northampton County Militia.
