PFC John Michael Higgins Jr.

He was the oldest of the two children born to John and Ellen (Shaunessy) Higgins, both of whom immigrants from County Mayo, Ireland. In 1935 the family was living in an apartment at 2342 Ryer Avenue in the Bronx. His father supported the family working as a "tollman" for the subway system earning about $1400 a year. They were still at the same address in 1942 and young John was working for Ethel Corporation in the Chrysler Building.
