PVT William Pershing Mackey

PVT William Pershing Mackey was born 17 Mar 1919 in Canton, Ohio.  He was the 6th of 8 children born to Clyde Kennedy and Frances Celeste (Belat) Mackey. His father supported his family by working in various factories.

William was drafted 9 Dec 1943. He was recorded as having a grammar school education and being a skilled motor vehicle mechanic. PVT Mackey was sent to Europe and on 10 Aug 1944 was transferred from the replacement depot to L Company 116th Infantry. On 25 Aug 1944 he was sent to hospital as a non-battle casualty and he returned to the unit on 5 Sep 1944.  PVT Mackey was killed in action on 7 Oct 1944.

PVT Mackey was repatriated and now rests forever in Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton, Ohio.

His great-grandfather, Job Kennedy, served as a PVT in D Company 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry and G Company 126th Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War.
