Cyrus was a PVT in a Lynchburg infantry unit of the National Guard in February 1941 when the unit was federalized. As a member of B Company 116th Infantry, he was with the unit on D-Day and survived without injury until 25 Oct 1944 when he was wounded. Evacuated to the hospital, he died of his wound(s) on 7 Nov 1944.
T4 Banton was repatriated and is buried in Saint Stephens Cemetery in Nelson County, Virginia.
