PVT Ollie Davis was born 13 May 1895 in Hollytree, Alabama. He was the 6th of 9 children born to John Patrick and Wilham Amanda (Berry) Davis. The family farmed and by 1917 Ollie was farming for himself.
Ollie was inducted and designated as a replacement for combat losses. He sailed for France aboard the SS Walmer Castle departing New York City on 20 Jun 1918. We think that PVT Davis was assigned to L Company 116th Infantry sometime between 1 Jul 1918 and mid-September. After the 116th underwent trench warfare training the unit was put into a "quiet" sector for further training. It was shortly after that PVT Davis was wounded and died of his wound(s) on 20 Sep 1918.
PVT Davis was repatriated and re-interred in the Davis Cemetery in Jackson County, Alabama.
Ollie's father served in K Company 4th Tennessee Cavalry (CSA) during the Civil War.
