PFC Carl Eugene Marshall was born in October 1898 in Albemarle County, Virginia to Eugene Wibur and Lillie Ella (Wood) Marshall. His father worked was a merchant in the Earlysville area for many years.
After entering the Army, Carl was assigned to H Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit at Camp McClellan and Anniston, Alabama and sailed with the unit aboard the USS Finland to France in June 1918. PFC Marshall was killed in action on 17 Oct 1918.
PFC Marshall is memorialized on the tablets of the missing at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery.
