PFC Joseph Anthony Lubak Jr.

PFC Joseph Anthony Lubak Jr. was born 26 Jul 1920 in Erie, Pennsylvania the fifth of nine children of Joseph Anthony and Frances Catherine (Wasikowski) Lubak.  The senior Joseph was a native of Poland and worked in a factory.  In 1940, Joseph Jr. was working for a casket manufacturer and reported a 1939 income of $364.

Joseph was working as an apprentice machinist when drafted in October 1942. After attending his initial training he was sent to England in June 1943 and assigned to C Company 116th Infantry.  He trained with the unit for the anticipated amphibious assault on occupied France at what would be code-named "Omaha beach".  He was with the unit in that effort and fought with the unit until killed in action on 17 Jun 1944 (D+11).


PFC Lubak was repatriated and now rests forever in Trinity Cemetery in Erie, Pennsylvania.
