PVT THomas Francis Mullen

PVT Thomas Francis Mullen was born 18 Oct 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the 2nd of 3 children born to Michael Henry and Edna Ida (Hahn) Mullen. His father was a long time railroad employee. Thomas was able to complete 3-years of high school and was apparently working in ornamental iron work when he was drafted in December 1942.

After basic training, Thomas was sent to England and assigned to M Company 116th Infantry where he trained with the unit for the planned amphibious assault that would be a part of the invasion of occupied Europe. PVT Mullen was part of that effort and participated in the D-Day landings on 6 Jun 1944. He continued to fight with the unit until killed in action on 17 Jun 1944.

PVT Mullen was repatriated and re-interred in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania where he will now rest forever with his family.

Brother, Michael Joseph Mullen, served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chicot (AK-170) in the South Pacific as SC2c (ship's cook) from May 1944 to March 1946.
