PVT Wilmer Edsel Jacobs

PVT Wilmer Edsel Jacobs was born 22 Dec 1924 in Etowah County, Alabama to General "Buck" and Alma Arbaner (Bearden) Jacobs.  His father worked as a wire drawer in a steel mill.  His reported 1939 income was $1300.

Known as "Crickett" to his family, Wilmer was working as a farm hand when he was drafted in June 1943.  After basic training he was sent to England and assigned to K Company 116th Infantry.  He trained for and participated in the D-Day amphibious assault on the French beach code-named "Omaha".  PVT Jacobs was killed in action on 17 Jun 1944.

PVT Jacobs was repatriated in 1952 and is buried with many family members in Whitesboro Cemetery in Whitesboro, Alabama. His brother, Curtis Leon Jacobs, served in the U.S. Navy during the war.
