SSG Wesley Earl Hardiman

SSG Wesley Earl Hardiman was born in Dillwyn, Virginia on 2 Sep 1918 to Luther Wilfred and Mary Susan (Wright) Hardiman. Luther worked on the railroad and farmed. 

Wesley was a PVT in the National Guard unit in Farmville, Virginia when the unit was federalized and called to active duty in February 1941.  As a member of G Company 116th Infantry he stayed with the unit through training at Fort Meade, Maryland and Camp Blanding, Florida and shipped out for England with the regiment in September 1942.  He trained with and made the landing on 6 Jun 1944.  On 11 Jun 1944 he was transferred to A Company 116th Infantry after that unit's terrible losses on D-Day.  SSG Hardiman was killed in action on 17 Jun 1944. 

SSG Hardiman was repatriated and is buried in the Cedar Baptist Church Cemetery in Dillwyn, Virginia. His brother Luther also served during the war.
