PFC Achillus Garland Hurley

PFC Achillus Garland Hurley was born 12 Jan 1918 in Laurel County, Kentucky the youngest child of Jacob and Sarah Elizabeth (Hensley) Hurley.  The family farmed.

Achillus was noted as being a farm hand when he was drafted in December 1942.  After his initial training Achillus was apparently assigned to L Company 90th Infantry. In the accompanying photo, he is shown wearing the Anti-Aircraft Command shoulder insignia. Whatever the circumstances, he was transferred from the replacement depot to F Company 116th Infantry on 24 Oct 1944 to serve as a rifleman.  PFC Hurley was killed in action on 19 Nov 1944.

Repatriated in 1948, PFC Hurley was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery in East Bernstadt, Kentucky.
