2LT Francis Hugh Anthony McKeon Jr.

2LT Francis Hugh Anthony McKeon Jr. was born 15 Jul 1921 at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was the eldest of 5 children of COL Francis Hugh Anthony and Mary Rose (Moore) McKeon (pronounced "mac-yone". His father had begun his army career in the New York Army National Guard. He had served in the Mexican Border before being sent to France for service in the first World War. It was there that Francis Senior was commissioned as a 2LT.  The family then followed him from post to post spending time in the Canal Zone and at various other posts. Young Francis managed to attend 2 years of college.

Francis was drafted in July 1942. After attending various courses of training including Officer Candidate School he was sent to the European theater. On 17 Jun 1944 he was transferred from the replacement depot to K Company 116th Infantry to served as a platoon leader. At first reported as missing in action he was later found to have been killed in action on 15 Jul 1944. 2LT McKeon was a recipient of the Bronze Star medal.

2LT McKeon was repatriated and re-interred at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia where he now rests forever with his parents.

Aside from his father who retired as a COL in 1953, sister, Mary Rose McKeon, served as a 2LT in the Women's Army Corps. Brother, James J. McKeon, served in the Army, also as a commissioned officer. Brother, Thomas Moore McKeon, served as an Army CPL.
