PFC Maurice Lawrence Altizer

PFC Maurice Lawrence Altizer was born in Tazewell County, Virginia on 3 Jan 1913 to Claude Earl and Violet Eliza (Bryant) Altizer.  Claude farmed to support the family of as many as 12.  Brother Walter Chase Altizer died in 1929 at age 22, sister Nelpha Helen Altizer died in 1923 at age 1½.

Maurice (pronounce "Morris" in that area) was drafted in April 1941.  He may have been assigned to M Company 116th Infantry but he was assigned to F Company 116th Infantry on D-Day.  He was still assigned to that unit when he was killed in action on 11 Jul 1944.

PFC Altizer is buried in Richmond National Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.
