SGT Noel Osmon Dodson Jr.

SGT Noel Osmon Dodson Jr. was born 15 Jun 1918 to Noel Osmon and Lillie Blanche (Hardy) Osmon of  Campbell County, Virginia. His father worked as a mail carrier from 1920 through at least 1940.

When Noel Jr. entered active service in February 1941 with his South Boston, Virginia National Guard unit, F Company 116th Infantry, he was a PVT and is recorded as having 4 years of college.  He remained with the unit through D-Day and was promoted to SGT on 20 Jun 1944.  The morning report shows him as "LWA" or lightly wounded in action and evacuated to hospital.  The wound was obviously more serious than thought as SGT Dodson died of his wound(s) on 12 Jul 1944.

Brought back to the U.S. in 1948, SGT Dodson is buried in the Catawba Baptist Church Cemetery in Catawba, Virginia.
