PVT Hardy Perry Moore

PVT Hardy Perry Moore was born 3 Dec 1911 in New Bern, North Carolina. He was the 5th of 12 children born to Leonidas John and Maude Cobb Inez (Foy) Moore. His father was a lawyer. Hardy married Lela Kyle Mewborn on 4 Feb 1934. Hardy was operating a dry cleaning business in 1940 and renting a house at 31 Pollock Street in New Bern.

Hardy was drafted in October 1943. After his basic infantry training he was sent to the European theater. Lela gave birth to a daughter in March 1944. PVT Moore was transferred from the replacement depot to E Company 116th Infantry on 13 Jun 1944, just 7 days after the landings at Omaha beach. He was killed in action on 15 Jun 1944.

PVT Hardy was repatriated and re-interred in Cedar Grove Cemetery in New Bern, North Carolina.

Lela would remarry in 1947. Hardy's daughter is still living. 

You might note that his headstone gives his unit as F Company. This is at odds with the morning report which repeatedly shows him in E Company and may be the result of a clerical error. His date of death also is given as 15 Jun 1944 although the morning report ultimately fixes his date of death as 15 Jul 1944. With the documentation currently available we are unable to absolutely state which is correct, hence our mention here.
