2LT Donald John Meyers

2LT Donald John Meyers was born 15 Nov 1920 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the 2nd of the 4 children born to Edward George and Margaret Helen (Bernhard) Meyers. His father worked as a supervisor at a roller bearing manufacturing plant. He reported a 1939 income of $3500 and the family lived in a home at 579 Gates Street in Columbus that was valued at $1800. Donald was working as a tool maker helper and reported a 1939 income of $420.

Donald had completed 3 years of high school when he voluntarily enlisted in the Army in June 1942. After training which included Officer Candidate School, he was sent to the European theater. 2LT Meyers was transferred from the replacement depot to I Company 116th Infantry on 13 Jun 1944. He was killed in action just 4 days later, on 17 Jun 1944.

2LT Meyers was repatriated and buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia next to his older brother 1LT George Edward Meyers who died in France on 7 Jul 1944 while serving in the 313th Infantry.
