PVT Harold Herbert Ward Jr.

PVT Harold Herbert Ward Jr. was born 31 Dec 1921 in Far Rockaway, New York. He was the youngest of 2 and only son of Harold Herbert and Julia (Delevallez) Ward. His mother was a native of France and his parents had met during World War I.and married there in 1919.  His father worked as a private chauffeur and in 1930 was making enough money that the family paid $45 a month rent for a place at 428 West 124th Street in Manhattan. He was still doing that work in 1940 earning a reported $1200 in 1939 and still paying $48 a month rent. Young Harold had just apparently didn't attend high school and also began working as a chauffeur. 

Harold Jr. voluntarily enlisted on 24 Feb 1941. Sent to England he was not in the D-Day landing but transferred from the replacement depot to I Company 116th Infantry on 22 Jun 1944. He fought with his unit until shot through the spine and killed in action near Saint-Lo, France on 12 Jul 1944.

PVT Ward is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery. 

Harold Senior served in France with G Company 307th Repair Unit.
