PVT Wendell Williams Warren was born 23 Oct 1913 in Greenville, Texas. He was the 2nd of 4 children and oldest of the 3 sons born to David Aaron and Laura Myrtle (Williams) Warren. His father was a farmer. After completing high school at Sherman High School, Wendell began working eventually working as a foreman for the Houston Milling Company in Houston. He married Genevieve Sandifer in June 1937 and the couple would have their first son, Jimmy, 2-years later.

Wendell was drafted in November 1943 and after completing his basic military training was sent to England and assigned to F Company 116th Infantry. This was apparently just prior to the amphibious assault in which the company took part on 6 Jun 1944, D-Day. PVT Warren fought with unit until he was struck by fragments from an artillery shell and killed in action near Saint-Lo, France on 12 Jul 1944.

PVT Warren rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery.

Brother, CPT Billy Scott Warren, 2532 USAAF Base Unit at Randolph Field, Texas died in service at Hondo Army Air Field outside of Hondo, Texas on 2 Sep 1945.  Son, AMH3 Jimmy Scott Warren, was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Guam while serving with the U.S. Navy in 1961.
