2LT George Preston Briggs

2LT George Preston Briggs was born 14 Jul 1909 in Brockton, Masschusetts to George Franklin and Nellie C. (Laying) Briggs. His father worked as a model maker in a shoe last factory and as a foreman in a tack factory.  In 1940, George Preston was working in sales promotion for retail merchandise. 

After George entered the service and completed his training he was sent overseas and on 26 Jul 1944 was transferred from the replacement depot to K Company 116th Infantry as a platoon leader. On 4 Aug 1944, 2LT Briggs was killed in action near Vire, France.

2LT Briggs rests forever in the Brittany American Cemetery.
