PVT Edmund Robchewski was born 7 Jul 1924 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was the 3rd of 4 children born to Harry Phillip and Anna (Pordon) Robchewski. His father was a native of Lipoveskchowizda, Poland who had immigrated in 1899 and worked for the Lackawanna Railroad. By 1930 he owned the family home at 517 North Bromley Avenue in Scranton which was valued at $10,000 in 1930 but only $5000 by 1940 due to the effects of the depression on property values. The family attended the Stanislaus Polish National Church. Edmund graduated from West Scranton High School and then went to work for the Lackawanna Railroad Shops.
Edmund was drafted in September 1943 and sent to Europe 8 months later after completing training at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He was transferred to I Company 116th Infantry on 16 Jul 1944. Just 6 days later he was wounded near Saint Lo, France and evacuated to hospital where he was for 2 weeks before dying on 3 Aug 1944.
PVT Robchewski was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in the Saint Stanislaus Cathedral PNCC Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
