SGT Edward Wilson Ward was born 11 Oct 1924 in Denver, Colorado. He was the only son of Edward William and Alta Beatrice (Caswell) Ward. He did have a half-brother, adopted by his father, who was 5-years older. His father worked as a truck driver for the Railway Express Company but his parents divorced in 1932 and his mother remarried in 1933. His step-father, Harry H. Murray, was a custodian for the Denver public schools earning a reported $1200 in 1939. The family lived in the home Harry owned at 1176 South Clarkson in Denver. Valued at $1000 in 1940, the house still stands today and last sold for $830,000. After high school, Edward went to work for Gates Rubber Company.
Edward was drafted in April 1943. After completing his military training he was sent to the European theater. SGT Ward was transferred from the replacement depot to L Company 116th Infantry on 24 Jul 1944. He was killed in action near Vire, France on 6 Aug 1944.
SGT Ward was repatriated in 1949 and re-interred in the Fairmont Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
Father, Edward William Ward, was a Wagoner in E Company 115th Engineers in France in WW1.
