PFC James Lewis Brooks was born 7 Oct 1921 in Lynchburg, Virginia to Thomas Lee and Sarah Frances (Woolridge) Brooks. His father worked in a pipe foundry, as a finisher in a furniture factory, and as a railway watchman. James was apparently working in a construction trade when he married Dorothea Bernice Robinson.
James went into service in February 1940 when he joined the National Guard and was assigned to B Company 116th Infantry when it was federalized a year later in February 1941. He and Dorothea had a son later that year. PFC Brooks trained for and was in the assault on Omaha Beach when he was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.
PFC Brooks was repatriated and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
