PFC Fred W Black

PFC Fred William Black was born 4 Apr 1918 to George Andrew and Minnie Mae (Sweeten) Black in Le Flore County, Oklahoma.  He had 6 siblings and his father worked at various jobs to support his family as varied as hauling lumber and making shoes.

Fred entered service on 3 Mar 1943.  On 4 Jul 1944 he reported for duty to A Company 116th Infantry.  The morning report shows him killed in action on 9 Jul 1944 but this was later found to be 6 Jul 1944. 

PFC Black is now buried Oak Lawn Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma. 

Fred's brother George Ray Black also served during WWII.  He survived.
