PVT Robert LeRoy Quinn

PVT Robert LeRoy Quinn was born 2 Nov 1919 in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the 4th of 5 children born to Leonard Cyril and Gertrude I. (Worthen) Quinn. His father worked as farm labor and then as a machinist. His mother died of uterine cancer in 1930. His father would not remarry until 1936. In 1940 the family lived at 1253 Logan Avenue in Waterloo for which they paid $30 a month rent. By then Robert was also working in a factory and then for John Deere. On 15 Mar 1941 he married Audrey May Davis. They would have a son in January 1943.

Robert was drafted in October 1943. He trained at Camp Roberts, California and was able to get a 14-day furlough to go home and see his family before being sent to the European theater. He was transferred from the replacement depot to C Company 116th Infantry on 16 Jun 1944 where he served as a rifleman. PVT Quinn was killed in action on 6 Jul 1944. 

PVT Quinn now rests in the Normandy American Cemetery.

His brother, PVT Donald Francis Quinn, was serving with the 401st Glider Infantry Regiment when he was killed in action on 2 Feb 1945. He is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery. The youngest of the family, Earl Joseph Quinn, served as an FC3c in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Davison (DD618) .
