PFC Benjamin Russell Hubbard

PFC Benjamin Russell Hubbard was born 20 Jan 1914 near Roanoke, Virginia to Oscar Cecil and Mary Mathilda (Johnson) Hubbard. He was the 7th of their 8 children. Oscar worked for the railroad repairing train cars, as a carpenter and operated a feed store. In 1940, Benjamin was working with his father.

Benjamin was still working for the railroad with his father when he was drafted in May 1941.  Probably sent to Fort George Meade, Maryland, PVT Hubbard would have been assigned to F Company 116th Infantry before the regiment embarked for England aboard the Queen Mary in September 1942.  However, he did train for and take part in the D-Day landing on 6 Jun 1944 when he was killed in action.

PFC Hubbard is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery

Brother Oscar Cecil Hubbard Jr. also served during WW2.
