PFC James Leland Elam was born 21 Oct 1917 in Scott County, Virginia to William Hobart and Ella E (Cox) Elam. The family farmed and in 1940 James was working as a truck driver helping the family with an income of $672 in 1939.
After James entered service and completed his training he was sent overseas and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry. He was with that unit on 6 Jun 1944 (D-Day) when he was killed in action.
In 1948 he was returned to the U.S. and now PFC Elam rests forever in Arlington National Cemetery.
