PVT Nevin Russell Walk was born 24 Oct 1917 in Hannah, Pennsylvania to Reverend Chandler Merrill and Ruth Ann (Riggleman) Walk. The 3rd of 12 children, Nevin farmed, probably with his father much of the time, at least through 1940 when he was living in Huston, Pennsylvania.
Nevin was drafted in February 1942, before Congress provided deferments for farm labor were instituted. Nevin was sent overseas and assigned to D Company 116th Infantry and was present for the amphibious assault on Omaha Beach on 6 Jun 1944. He was killed that day and his body buried there until 1948 when he was returned to the U.S. and buried in Julian Cemetery in Centre County, Pennsylvania.
Nevin never married and had no children. His entire immediate family survived him. His brothers Paul, Charles, Don and Lester served in the military during WWII or the Korean conflict.
