SSG Raymond Samuel Hoback

SSG Raymond Samuel Hoback was born 21 Jan 1920 in Bedford County, Virginia to John Samuel and Macie E. (Robertson) Hoback.  The family farmed.

Raymondwas a member of A Company 116th Infantry, then the National Guard unit in Bedford, Virginia when the unit was mobilized/federalized on 3 Feb 1941. He was with the unit when it trained at Fort Meade, Maryland and Camp Blanding, Florida and when it went to England in September 1942.  He trained with the unit for the amphibious assault on the Normandy beaches where he was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.

SSG Hoback is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery. His brother, Bedford Hoback, was also killed in action while serving in that same unit and on that same day.
