CPL William R. Jarrett

CPL William R. Jarrett was born 4 Aug 1917 in Elendale, Pennsylvania one of 7 surviving children of James Frank and Anna Marie (Weasta) Jarrett.  His father was a coal miner and worked on a road maintenance crew.  In 1940 William was in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).  The family of 3 adults had a combined 1939 income of $689. 

After entering the service in February 1942 and completing basic training, William was sent to England and assigned to M Company 116th Infantry.  He trained with that unit for the amphibious assault on D-Day in which he took part and during which he was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.

CPL Jarrett was repatriated and is buried in the Phillipsburg Cemetery in South Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania.
