PFC Eugene Macaluso

PFC Eugene Macaluso was born 27 Jun 1922 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania the oldest of three children of Salvatore and Salvatora "Sylvia" Macaluso.  Both parents were natives of Italy.  His father worked as a laborer and died of pneumonia in 1926.  His mother did not remarry and we do not know how she supported the family as all four were living together in 1940 but reported no income for 1939.  Sylvia was paying $15 a month rent.

Eugene was drafted in January 1943. At that time he was apparently working in a warehouse.  He was sent to England in June 1943 and assigned to 1st Platoon B Company 116th Infantry. He trained with that unit for the amphibious assault that would take place at Omaha beach.  PFC Macaluso was killed in action while participating in that effort on 6 Jun 1944.

PFC Macaluso was repatriated and re-interred in Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

His father served in WW1 in I Company 38th Infantry suffering a gun shot wound to the right thigh. Brother, Vincent James Macaluso, served in the Army 1945-1946.
