Mr. Thomas Joseph Marks Jr

PFC Thomas Joseph Marks Jr. was born 8 Jul 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Thomas Joseph and Elizabeth M. (Hudecheck) Marks. His father was a salesman. Thomas senior died of pneumonia in 1932 and Elizabeth had to support the family by working as a housekeeper in a hotel. She reported a 1939 income of $566 for 1939 or about $9,700 in today's money. By 1942 Thomas was working as a machinist.

Thomas was drafted in December 1942. After basic training he was sent to England and assigned to 1st Platoon B Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit for the planned amphibious assault on Nazi occupied France which would ultimately take place on 6 Jun 1944. PFC Marks was killed in action in that effort on 6 Jun 1944.

PFC Marks was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania.
