PFC Bernard H. Lipscomb
PFC Bernard H. Lipscomb was born 7 Sep 1921 in West Union, West Virginia the second of five children and only son of Hobert and Lelah Gay (Zahn) Lipscomb. The family farmed.
After entering the Army, Bernard was sent to England and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry. He prepared with the unit for amphibious assault on the shores of France with intense training on the moors and shores of England. He was with the unit when killed in action on 6 Jun 1944 as the invasion of Hitler's "fortress Europe" kicked off.
PFC Lipscomb was buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
