PFC Benjamin Chesney

PFC Benjamin Chesney was born 11 Aug 1913 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania to Michael and Mary Chesney.  Mary was born in Poland.  In 1940 Benjamin was working as a coal cutter. 

When Benjamin was drafted in February 1942 he had left the mines to work in retail.  After training Benjamin was sent overseas and assigned to B Company 116th Infantry.  He was with that unit on 6 Jun 1944 during the D-Day assault on the Normandy beaches.  He was killed in action in that action.

PFC Chesney is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
