PFC Edward Leroy Gillingham

PFC Edward Leroy Gillingham was born in 1918 in Elkhart, Indiana to Joseph and Anna Ellen (Cook) Gillingham.  His father worked as a carpenter, farmed and died in 1928.  His mother worked as a housekeeper. In 1940, Edward is noted as training in wood working and the total family reported income for 1939 was $316.

Edward was drafted in September 1941.  After completing training he may have very well been assigned to F Company 116th Infantry prior to the unit going to England.  He was with the unit prior to D-Day and killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.

PFC Gillingham is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
