PFC Edward Salgado Verdugo was born 5 Apr 1921 in Pasadena, California. He was the son of Guillermo "William" and Ramona (Salgado) Verdugo. He may have had 7 siblings. Edward's father was a California native and his mother had immigrated from Mexico. His father worked as farm labor in the Pasadena area for several years. His parents separated about 1935 and his mother moved to Fresno and then Washington, California. Edward helped support the family by working as farm labor and reported a 1939 income of $200. When Edward registered for the draft he was working for Robert Williams in McFarland, California.
Edward was drafted in November 1942. After completing his basic military training he was sent to England and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry. He then trained with the unit for the amphibious landing that was planned as part of the effort to liberate occupied France. PFC Verdugo was killed in action on that day.
PFC Verdugo rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery.
