PFC Guillermo Bedard was born 17 Apr 1922 in San Dres, Columbia. His parents were Jose Hormidas and Bella Bedard and we don't know of any other children or anything more about his mother. His father was a career sailor in the US Navy and had served on the first submarine, the USS Holland. In 1930 he was serving on Submarine 17 which was at the Coco Solo Submarine Base in Cristobal, Panama. Guillermo's paternal grandparents had immigrated to the Fall River, Massachusetts area from Quebec, Canada in 1890-92.
Guillermo was drafted in January 1943. He was assigned to Headquarters 116th Infantry on D-Day and while the morning report shows him as dying of wounds on 19 Jun 1944, later records show him as dying on 6 Jun 1944.
PFC Bedard was repatriated and buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery as was his father.
His father served as a Chief Gunner's Mate in the US Navy during WWII and died 15 Nov 1943, reportedly aboard a submarine in the South Pacific.
