William was drafted in January 1943. After his initial military training he was sent to England and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry. He was with the unit for the final phases of training for the amphibious landing that took place at Vierville-sur-mer, France on the beach code-named "Omaha". PFC Perdue was killed in action in that assault on 6 Jun 1944.
