PFC Zigmund Horodecki was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1919, to Vincent and Josephine Horodecki. Both of his parents had immigrated from Poland. In 1940 both Vincent and Zigmund worked for a railroad, Vincent as a car cleaner and Zigmund as a porter. Together, they reported a 1939 income of $2102.
After entering the service, Zigmund went to England and was assigned to C Company 116th Infantry. He prepared for the amphibious assault on the French beach that was to be code-named "Omaha" and on D-Day debarked with them. PFC Horodecki was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.
PFC Horodecki is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery. His brother, Francis, also served 1942-1943 in the U.S. Navy.
