PVT Robert Amos Martin Jr

PVT Robert Amos Martin Jr. was born 18 Nov 1922 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  He was the youngest and only son of the 3 children born to Robert Amos and His father worked as an engineer and fireman and his mother was a sales clerk in a department store and as a cleaning lady. The couple reported a combined 1939 income of  $1012.

Robert was unemployed when he registered for the draft in 1942. He was drafted in January 1943. After basic training he was sent to England and assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit for the amphibious landings that ultimately took place on 6 Jun 1944. PVT Martin was killed in action in that effort on the 6 Jun 1944.

PVT Martin was repatriated and re-interred in Riverview Cemetery in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Robert's maternal great-grandfathers both served the United States in the Civil War, Anthony Angermier, was a PVT in K Company 77th Pennsylvania Infantry and Jacob Gompf was CPT of K Company 79th Pennsylvania Infantry.
