SGT Kayo Theodore Malmberg

SGT Kayo Theodore Malmberg was born 23 Feb 1918 in Gile, Wisconsin. He was the 2nd of 7 children born to Theodore John and Ida Johanna (Rajala) Malmberg. Both parents were natives of Finland. His father had been a miner and was a carpenter when he died of tuberculosis in 1938 at the age of 48.

Kayo entered the army on 8 Sep 1942, underwent his initial training and was sent to the England in November 1943. Assigned to B Company 116th Infantry, he trained for the amphibious landings that would be part of the invasion of occupied France. SGT Malmberg was killed in action in the landing on 6 Jun 1944. 

SGT Malmberg was repatriated and re-interred in Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood, Michigan.

Older brother, Hans Reino Malmberg, served in the Army 1943-1946.
