SGT Paul Monroe Kennedy

SGT Paul Monroe Kennedy was born 10 Sep 1919 in Rappahannock County, Virginia to Robert Lee and Bertha Jane (Woodward) Kennedy.  The family was soon moved to Culpeper County where Robert "Jolly" Kennedy worked as farm labor.  Paul was doing the same work in 1940 and the family reported a combined 1939 income of $600.

Paul was drafted in May 1941. After his training he was assigned to B Company, likely before the unit shipped out for England in September 1942.  PVT Kennedy trained with the unit for the amphibious assault that was planned to take place on the Normandy beaches. In that time he was promoted to PFC and on 5 Jun 1944 he was promoted to SGT.  He was with the unit when killed in action on 6 Jun 1944 in the midst of that amphibious assault.

SGT Kennedy is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
