SGT Thomas Eugene Bratten

SGT Thomas Eugene Bratten was born 7 Jul 1922 in Jefferson County, Kentucky to Irvin Frank and Mary E (Dirck) Bratten.  His father supported the family of 8 by working in a leather shop and as a night watchman.

"Tommy" was drafted in November 1942.  Sometime in 1942 he Lizabeth Francis Groeble.  On 5 Jul 1943 their son was born in Louisville, Kentucky.  It is likely that Thomas was already overseas, in England and assigned to B Company 116th Infantry.  On 5 Jun 1944 he was promoted to SGT.  The next day, 6 Jun 1944 his unit participated in the D-Day landing and SGT Bratten was killed in action.

SGT Bratten is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.

Son, Thomas Eugene Bratten Jr. entered service 7 May 1963 and served in Vietnam attaining the rank of  CPT.  He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  He died 22 Jun 2005 and is buried in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Maryland.
